If you’re looking for the perfect place for a mountain escape just an hour north of Atlanta — we’ve got it.

Cabin on the Chestatee is an amazing cabin that’s located just minutes from spectacular North Georgia wineries, hiking, waterfalls, and downtown Dahlonega. It’s the perfect getaway for families, couples, or a girls weekend.

We were able to stay at Cabin on the Chestatee for a couple days, and we had the best time. We guarantee you’ll want to book a stay at this cozy cabin too.

CABIN ON THE CHESTATEE

Cabin on the Chestatee is aptly named — this cabin is located right on the Chestatee River, with 200 feet of riverfront property to enjoy. The large windows in the living room overlook the river, making it the perfect spot to enjoy your morning cup of coffee while watching the sun rise.

Cabin on the Chestatee is a 2 bedroom/1 bath modern and cozy cabin located on 2.5 secluded acres. The cabin sleeps six — with a spiral staircase leading to two full beds (and a trundle) in the upstairs bedroom, a queen bed in the downstairs bedroom, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room.

My kids loved the upstairs bedroom — which had video games and a little nook that included books and board games. We loved the comfy beds and bedding in the house too!

There are so many great details throughout the cabin — like Because Coffee, roasted in nearby Dawsonville. (We bought some to bring home!) The kitchen is gorgeous and nicely appointed, as is the rest of the house. We seriously didn’t want for anything. There’s a great breakfast nook that overlooks the side yard that we loved, and we also ate at the big farmhouse table on the screened porch.

You can tell so much thought has been put into the details, and it truly made it feel like we were visiting a friend’s home.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES ABOUND

The cabin is so amazing you may not want to go outside — but you should! The house has so much to offer outside too.

Two kayaks are available for your use, and you can put in right in front of the house and float peacefully on the river. You can also fish for trout here.

There’s an awesome outside deck that overlooks the river, a screened porch, Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, a fire pit, a hammock, and plenty of room to play for the kids.

One of the best perks of staying at Cabin on the Chestatee? It’s an easy 10 minute walk away from a beautiful waterfall called Grindle Shoals. This is a must do activity. We were visiting in December, and the falls were covered in a misty fog — it was just stunning. And bonus — we saw deer on our walk to the falls! I can imagine this place is extraordinary any time of year. It’s the perfect spot for family photos!

WINERIES, HIKING, AND MORE

Location, location, location! There is so much do near this cabin! Although staying at the cabin makes it feel like you’re worlds away from everything — you’re really not. In fact, you’re pretty close to some amazing activities and experiences.

WINERIES

I mentioned this would be a great place to stay for a girls weekend or a couples retreat, and the cabin’s proximity to wineries is one of the reasons.

Cavender Creek Vineyards is just two miles away! We loved this winery, and cannot wait to go back. We had our kids with us on this trip, and this was the perfect winery to visit with them. Cavender Creek has a playground, animals to feed, and kid-friendly drinks too.

Frogtown Cellars, Kaya Vineyard and Winery, Three Sisters Vineyard and Winery, and Wolf Mountain Vineyard and Winery are all within 15 minutes of the cabin. How’s that for a great location?

HIKING AND WATERFALLS

For the hikers in your group, there are plenty of great trails nearby. Take a hike on the Appalachian Trail from the Woody Gap parking lot to Preacher’s Rock. This is one of my favorite hikes — it’s not too difficult, and you’re rewarded with spectacular views. The trailhead is only about 25 minutes from the cabin.

Amicalola Falls State Park and Unicoi State Park are both located about 30 minutes from the cabin. In addition to Grindle Shoals up the road, there are also plenty more waterfalls nearby. Try Raven Cliff Falls, Anna Ruby Falls, Desoto Falls, or Cane Creek Falls.

DAHLONEGA AND HELEN

Downtown Dahlonega is only 15 minutes from Cabin on the Chestatee, and downtown Helen is 30 minutes away.

Downtown Dahlonega is filled with local shops and great restaurants, so it’s a great place to visit all year. But at Christmas time? Dahlonega is next level.

Visit downtown Dahlonega during the holiday season and enjoy everything that comes with Dahlonega’s Old Fashioned Christmas. In addition to amazing events, walking through downtown during the holidays feels like you’ve stepped right into a Hallmark movie. The town is decorated with thousands of lights, and it’s incredible to see.

You’re also minutes away from visiting the Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site, or the Consolidated Gold Mine. Make sure you pan for gold while you’re in town!

Helen is another town that’s great to visit year-round. Enjoy their holiday decorations and events in the winter, make plans to tube the Chattahoochee in the summer, grab a beer at Oktoberfest in the fall, and enjoy their amazing restaurants year-round. Our kids especially love the Mountain Coaster and Alpine Mini Golf here.

RELAXING, MEMORABLE STAY

All in all, we had the absolute best time at Cabin on the Chestatee. We loved the house itself, its location, the peacefulness of the area, and the cabin’s proximity to so many amazing places and adventures. After we’d been at the cabin for just a couple hours, my 11-year-old son asked, “So, after this trip…when can we come back?” It’s definitely the kind of place that makes you want to go ahead and plan your next trip back, even before you leave!

Cabin on the Chestatee currently has weekday availability in December and January and they have weekend and weekday openings starting in February.
